Weekly Masonic Reflection Letter. April 29th 2026.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.”
Dear Brethren, time stands as a silent witness to this eternal law. What remains today of the antediluvian world? What endures of Babylon, of Thebes, of Tyre, those mighty centers of wealth and power? What survives of Rome’s grandeur beyond fragments of law, scattered literature, and weathered stone? Empires have risen in splendor and fallen into dust, each leaving behind the same lesson: what is built without virtue cannot endure. True prosperity rests only upon moral and spiritual foundations.“Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.” Without alignment to Divine Law, no structure can stand for long.
Through every age, the Grand Architect of the Universe has raised honorable men in every land, men who labored to establish conditions wherein the intellectual, moral, and spiritual development of humanity might flourish. Yet history repeats a familiar pattern: industry gives way to wealth, wealth to corruption, corruption to decay, and decay to ruin. This cycle persists not for lack of knowledge, but for lack of self-mastery. Man, endowed with reason and dominion over the earth, has too often failed to govern himself. As our Brother William C. Gregg so wisely expressed:“Know this, that every soul is free… God will force no man to Heaven… He’ll call, persuade, direct you aright… but never force the human mind.” Herein lies both the dignity and the burden of our existence: we are agents unto ourselves. We choose what we sow, and we must reap accordingly.
Perhaps no one man was ever destined to establish an enduring system through which all humans may benefit, but the Grand Architect’s promises: “those who remain faithful will find in it not only guidance, but divine refuge, a steady anchor amid the uncertainties of our time. Masonry has given us a pattern for living, a discipline of character, and a path toward true happiness and success, both here and hereafter. We must be anxiously engaged in a good cause, act of our own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness. The power is within us. Our mission is to bear witness to truth, to dispel error, and to provide abundant life. Life without purpose dissolves into emptiness, but life directed toward the service of others and the pursuit of divine understanding becomes a work of lasting value.
Fraternally yours, The Presidency of the Society of Light.
